Gold Medal Poems

The Baseball Adventure
by Clayton

The basball was thrown,
SWISH
went the ball.
WHACK
CRACK
the ball was hit
as high as an airplane
and as hard as a pinata
The man ran the bases
as fast as a cheetah.
SWISH
The ball went all the way
across the field.
It was a home run!

The Ski Race
by Henry

Zoom!
I fly through the gates like lightning,
I'm getting close to the finish line.
I'm like a neon green blurr
in my racing suit and helmet.
I zoom through the finish line,
stop
and spray everybody with snow.
Everybody's cheering and clapping.
I go back to the T-Bar to do
seven more races....

A Blurry Slur of Cotton
by Sasha

Zip!
I just love flying down these
ski hills.
There's a blurry slur of cotton,
white,
BUMP!
Uh oh,
I tripped and lost my ski.
I'm still going down the hill...
huh?
I finally got down to the bottom.

Awww?
Why do we have to go home, daddy?

I jump into the starting gate.
about a minute later I hear
Racer?
Ready?
Go!

I Beat My Record
by Alex

I hop off the starting gate
hoping I'm not going slow!
I race around the first gate:
ZIP!
Now I'm on the second!
I see the time...
Oh no!
Fifty-eight and
ZOOM!
I beat my record.

Basketball
by Cyrus

I shoot a basket
three points
I shoot another basket.
I think I'm the best on my team.
I shoot again,
a three point shot with seven seconds to go.
Russia has the ball but I steal it, pass to my team mate and he
passes it back to me and two points!
Half time.
Twenty four minutes to go after half time.
Next quarter I hear, "BOOS!"
from the Russians.
Thirty two seconds later I got the ball from them and
BOING, BOING, BOING,
SLAM DUNK!
My head is pounding like an eagle slamming a rat on the ground.
Penalty! says the referee.
i find myself flat on my back looking at the ceiling like
a cat knocked out cold.
I get one point then another and
114 to 100
five more minutes left in the quarter.
I feel like a dragon soaring gracefully in the sun.
122 to 110
two more minutes left to play
157 to 148
three seconds left
three points
we won!
Second best team in the world Bulls is now
first best team in the world and
Russia, first best in the world is now
second best in the world and
gold medals for the Bulls!
Basketball!

Olympic Swimming
by Eden

As I step on to the blocks and
hear them say,
"Take your mark!"
and then
all at once
all the swimmers
splash into the water
with great excitement as
Missy Franklin takes the lead
and she does it again.

Missy Franklin won the 200 yard back stroke.
Next up is the 200 yard girls medley.
Ready?
Once the swimmers jump off the blocks
immediately the USA swimmers
take the lead
and the USA team
wins again!

Ski Racing
by Rex

Ski racing is hitting gates and
carving the ice and
slipping on it.
Racing is hard
and fun.
I race and race and
crash!
I crashed!
I get back up.
CRACKLE!
That's the ice.
Ai yi yi!
I won!

Wow!
by Cc

I leap on to the spring board
WOW
and jump on to the mat
SPLAT
and fly into an
aerial,
like so,
I jump from my feet
to my hands and
jump from my hands
to my feet and do
a handstand,
OW
BAM
I hit myself.

Gymnastics
by Alexis

I do an arabesque on to
the eight foot beam.
I start with an aerial and then
do a double front flip ,
then dismount on to the rings and
start swinging and
fly across the room,
landing on the high bar,
do four re-grips then
flip over the
top of the bar and
again,
dismount,
with a back flip and
tada!
I land on the gym floor.

On the Dance Floor
by Ruby

I spring and twirl into atittude
and flex my feet into
full point.
I chasse into a tour jete
and into a channe.
I feel the slick wood
rub against me as I glide
into the splits.
I roll and bring myself up by
bringing my left leg back behind me.
I'm standing as I feel my limbs against my sides,
the crowds are roaring and
I dip my head in acknowledgement.

Hands Walking on the Piano
by Piper

My balmy hands touch the
cold, clammy keys of the piano.
It is almost as if my hands
are walking on the piano and
after a few warm-ups
I race to the music.
Soon the music starts to sing and
come alive.
But the music ends.
I take a bow.
I played the song.

Splat!
by Thalia

Zoom!
I fly across the ice.
I am a famous ice-skater in the Olympis!
But, crash, shash, ahhhh
and I fall over.
But
zip
I am back up again and
swooshing around on the ice!
But I feel myself tottering....
Splat!
Bang!
Boing!
Bonk!
I fell down again.
Yuck!
I am ashamed of myself!
But in a whap, I am back up!
Then I feel something...
yikes!
The ice starts to crack beneath me.
I quickly zap across the rink,
scared of falling.
When I finally screech to a halt
at the entrance,
I slowly clamor off.
Until then, I had never noticed how much
my butt hurt.
That was a very zingy, ice-skating day!

Skiing
by Liam

I love flying down the mountain
as the wind
races by,
jumping off jumps,
then falling,
then I keep
zooming down.
I am a jet
speeding through the air.
When I ski, I am as powerful as a
tanker bumping through the
choppy water.

The Flat Back  by Arianna

I was doing a handstand,
and then I fell back
and I was flat upon the ground.

Oooh,
that
hurts.

I lay flat for a few minutes
on my back,
with the air knocked out of me.

But I get up
and
try it again.

But I fall on my back again.

It's true.

Soccer
by Aidan

Kick the ball!

Whack!

Pass the ball!

Zoom!

Swoosh!

Ball is in the center...

Kicking

Passing

I love soccer!

As I Glide Through the Water
by Gabriella

Splish!

Splash!

Splish!

Splash!

As I glide through the water.

Boom!

As I jump down.

Splat!

Into the water.

The Soccer Game
by Liam

Pow!
 The soccer ball zooms!
Into the goal.
There's twenty minutes left in the game.
bob passes the ball to me,
I pass the ball to Bob!
 As he scores!
Four more points till it's a tie.
Bobble's passes to me.
Someone on the other team pounds
the ball to Joe.
Joe is on Sam's team.
Joe scores!
Bob scores five more goals.
It's a tie!
3,2,1, 0 --
the game's over.
We score three and the
other team scores two.
We win!

The Wind In My Face
by Bennett

I love gymnastics because
I get to do spins
twists
flips
with all that air on my face,
going across the mat like
a fast bug waiting to eat.
Foom!
Boom!
Land.
It feels like you're jumping off a cliff
into the bright water.

Now the gymnastics meet.
I started to get that feeling,
the wind in my face,
like I'm in a whole new world.
Zoom!
Swoosh!
Land.
The crowd cheers for me!!!!

Glide Across the Ice
by Karma

I slap on my skates and
zoom across the rink.
Snow flies behind me.
I slowly start to
lift
one
foot
and lean my body
forward.
right then I start the party.
Zig
Zag
Quickly
I glide across the ice
once more.

Swimming
by Camille

When I touch the water
it's like I turn into a
beautiful human fish.
The water splashes everywhere.
It shimmers onto my skin.
Quickly I rush
through the water
as fast as a seacraft.
I fly smoothly toward the tough wall.
It's a wonderland in the
WATER!

Ski Adventure
by Clayton

I go to a ski trail.
Swish!
I zoom down the ski trail.
I came to the end of the ski trail.
I go on the ski lift.
The lift makes a noise.
Hrrrr.
I go a few more times.
Then I get tired.
I head down but when I get down,
I am not tired.
So I go on the T-Bar a few times.
Then I was really tired.
So I went home.

So Fast I Can't Even Breathe
by Evelyn

I plop on my skis.
I slip down the hill.
Zip!
Slam!
Weeeeeeeeeee!
When I get down
I jump on to the chairlift.
Yaaaaaaa!!!
Once I'm down I get off.
Zoom!
I go down another hill.
I go so fast that I can't
even breathe.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Swimming
by Shaeli

When you glide through the
glistening water,
dive,
splash,
drips of sparkling water
spray everywhere.
when you jump off the diving board
and do a dive
Splash!
Pencil dive!
You hear the whistle blow.
Class is over.
We go to rinse off, then
we go home.
And then we
come back.

Paper Airplane Fights
by Jack

Paper airplane fights are
SWEET!
I build
zooming
paper airplanes.
I make art and trick planes.
I sneak attack my sister's very bad planes
that don't even fly
and after about an hour of this
I hit Claire and
she cries and cries
but she said
we should play!!!

Headstands and Tripods
by Faris

Tripods are easy to do.
the tripod record is thirty minutes.
I like tripods because
they are fun and I am
good at them.
I can only hold it for three minutes,
thirteen seconds.
I'm trying to break the tripod record.
I'm also good at headstands.
they are easy to do too.
The record of headstands is three hours.
I was in a headstand competition against
fifty one kids and seven gymnastics teachers.
I was third place.
A kid named Jeb was second and a teacher won.
That's why I like
headstands and tripods.

A Little Shiver Inside Me
by Chloe

I walk up on to the stage with
my violin under my arm.
I have a little shiver
inside me.
I put my violin on my shoulder and
start to play.
Woosh.
The crowd starts to cheer.
The cheering goes on and on until
the end of my song.
Then the crowd claps.
I walk off the stage and
calm down.
The nervous butterflies
have stopped
and I am
all
calm.

To Lift Off the Ground
by Elsa

Woosh!
As I go zipping past the gates
I feel like a bird soaring through the air.
It's fabulous!
I am going so fast I feel like
I'm gonna lift off the ground.
I'm soaring in the clouds
as I do a front flip with everyone
watching me.
I close my eyes and I see
the color that means extremely happy.
Woosh!
I landed on the ground.
there's still more to go.
But I'm already ahead and
I crossed it!
I just won the gold medal!
Yay!

The Gold Medal
by Joanna

I love gymnastics.
It's my favorite thing to do
because you can jump on the
trampoline and
Jump!
Crack!
Ouch!
What was that?
I think you did the splits!
Gymnastics is fun because
you can win the gold medal
or even win the gold medal
one hundred times and
never lose.

Hopes High
by Ana

I step on the beam.
One leg in front of the other,
looking out on the audience.
There was a moment of silence,
then,
cheering!
I heard my name.
I started to run,
run as fast as I could and then
everything went
blank.
All I saw was the gold medal before me.
Clank!
I fell flat on the floor.
I had my hopes high and I
stepped on the beam again.
I did a triple back flip and then I
felt like a dolphin
jumping in the ocean.
I was right!
I got gold.

Sleep Walking
by Ray

I am in the terrific Olympics!
It is a soccer game.
Ten seconds into the game and.........
I quickly react and do a
bicycle kick goal.

Thump!!!

I gracefully land on my back.
I suddenly wake up and
I'm soaked in sweat,
wearing my jersey.
Hmmm.
Must have been sleep walking.

Whip Across the Ice
by Allison

My skates
whip across the ice.
My team doesn't
like to be nice.
I glide,
trying not to slide.
The puck swims into
my stick as I do an
awesome trick.
Goal!!!!!

To Shoot Through Snow
by Ari

I shoot through the snow,
three foot trees and
two foot sticks.
I flying to a jump.
I am flying like a bird until

WOOMP!

I am coming down like a pancake,
I am in a hospital in the emergency room.

WOOSH!  I am back on the hill again.

Music of the World
by Grace

The flighty music
drifts
over the
ocean,
traveling
over the
trees.
soaring
above the
Grand Canyon
swerving
through
the gangly
lets
of the
Empire State
Building,
dodging
the spires
of the
castles in
England
there is a
twinkling
sound.
Following
the wind,
a deep
growl
shakes
the sturdy
pyramids
of Egypt
making the
penguins
and polar bears
on the
melting
ice caps
tremble.
The kangaroos
and koalas
frantically
shuffle
(or bounce)
into
hiding
only to
relax
and creep
out again in the open
to the
thundering
music.
The wafting music reaches,
reaches for the layered
rains of Costa Rica
and
Brazil
and the
howler monkeys and
toucans
screech
with pleasure
while the
macaws and
snakes retreat.
The
music
of the
cello
travels
around
the world,
sounding
different
to all.

The Gymnast
by Mia

I am like Gabby Douglas
like going up and down on the high bars
and then I go to the floor and
back handsprings to a back flip
and then
I go to the beam like Gabby Douglas
and on the beam I do stuff like
back hand springs then,
BOOM!
BOOM!
POOF!
I am finished.
